Pupil Leadership
Developing leadership capability within our pupils is a key aspect of our work at Belfast Boys’ Model School. Building capacity to provide leadership of peers is done through directed curriculum provision and the pastoral programme.
Senior School pupils are provided with a variety of opportunities to develop a range of skills through the diverse range of enrichment options and experience of work placement throughout Sixth Form. The tailored enrichment programme delivered to the team as well as involvement in mentoring, sports coaching, cross community projects and the ERASMUS programme, all give pupils opportunities to enhance their CV’s and applications to supported pathways to Higher Level Apprenticeships, FHE or employment. They also gain experience through the Prefect and the Pupil Senior Leadership Team system. These systems allow pupils to play a supporting role in Belfast Boys’ Model School, undertaking responsibilities with regard to pupil well-being, in influencing decisions about school life and helping to implement these decisions. The programme ensures they participate as active citizens whilst getting opportunities to become work ready.
Pupils throughout the school are involved in the Well-Being & Anti-Bullying Ambassadors programme, Student Council, First Aider training, CRED projects as well as a variety of curriculum subject areas.
School Council
This year the Student Council are driving forward some new initiatives, such as the Investors in Pupils award. This will enable pupils to have the opportunity to develop their skills and express their views on education and community.
Anti-Bullying Ambassadors
Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors are pupils, who have been trained to work proactively to support victims of bullying, raise awareness of bullying and also to work preventatively to stamp out bullying in Belfast Boys’ Model School. The Anti-Bullying Ambassadors will be attending form classes, can be found in the HUB at lunchtime, has an active email account and a Facebook page. The wear Anti-Bullying Ambassador hoodies and are clearly identifiable in the corridors, playgrounds and on school buses.
Well-being Ambassadors
The Well-being Ambassadors have been trained by the organisation Inspire, to provide support, advice and information on Mental Health. Throughout the year, they will be running many more events to profile positive mental health and they will play an active role in school.
The extensive range of extra-curricular activities also provide opportunities for pupils to develop leadership ability in entrepreneurial enterprises and other recreational activities.
